Ultrasound Guided Injections

We are now able to offer targeted ultrasound guided injections within the practice. Guidance via ultrasound maximises the potential for success of the injection by ensuring the correct structure is being injected. We are able to offer these for various joints and soft tissues.

We highly recommend that you have a structured physiotherapy plan alongside your injection therapy and that you have an initial assessment with one of our expert team before considering injection therapy.

Prior to any injection you will receive an ultrasound scan to confirm diagnosis and that an injection is appropriate.

All risks and potential side effects will be explained to you before agreeing to proceed.

Corticosteroid Injection (Kenalog)

A corticosteroid injection is a targeted anti inflammatory injection. The injection contains the anti inflammatory steroid (Kenalog 40mg) and a local anaesthetic (Lidocaine 1%).

Relief can be from within a few hours from injection. We highly recommend you continue with a physiotherapy program after your injection to capitalise on the benefits and treat the cause of the issue.

Hyaluronic Acid Injection (Ostenil Plus)

A solution of Ostenil ®Plus is injected into the space in the joint that contains the synovial fluid and works by restoring the natural balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid. This effect means that it can decrease pain and stiffness and improve the other symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Combined corticosteroid and Hyaluronic Acid (Cingal)

CINGAL® is a powerful, first in class treatment that combines the proven benefits of Anika’s proprietary high concentration cross-linked hyaluronic acid formulation, approved for long-term pain relief, with a well-established FDA-approved steroid to treat inflammation. This unique combination provides rapid pain relief that lasts through 6 months.

Polyacrylamide hydrogel injection (Arthrosamid)

Arthrosamid® is an  innovative non-biodegradable hydrogel technology, Arthrosamid® is 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide and 97.5% water. When injected into the knee Arthrosamid® cushions the joint and reduces pain, providing safe and sustained relief, all with one injection. Once injected into the inner joint cavity, it restores viscosity within the synovial fluid, improving lubrication and cushioning of the joint. Arthrosamid® also integrates into the synovium of the inner joint capsule creating a cushion-like effect.
